ACCEPTANCE TOO LATE

THE LUMINARY CASE PROVIDED FOR IN TROTTING The owners of Luminary were unlucky in missing the Wellington acceptances on Monday night, more especially as they maintain that their telegram was handed in in plenty of time. Such eases in the sister sport of trotting are provided for in the Rules of Trotting and in this respect they lead the racing folk. The trotting rule reads as follows: “Where any entry or acceptance made by telegram is shown to have been lodged and timed at the office of origin at least two hours before the advertised time of closing, but is delayed in delivery until after such closing time, the committee or stewards may admit the same, providing always that such cases shall be reported forthwith by the club to the association, such rei port to be accompanied by confirmnj tion in writing from the officer in charge of the telegraph office making delivery.” TRENTHAM RIDERS ENGAGEMENTS MADE !
