Obituary

MRS. A. McRAE Mrs. Mary Mcßae, wife of Mr. Alexander Mcßae, has died at Hamilton. Born in the Waerenga Valley, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dona’d Bruce. Mr. and Mrs. Mcßae lived in the Lower Waikato for some year?, later moving’ to Auckland. They took up residence in Hamilton eight years ago. Mrs Mcßae is survived by her husband and six children.

MR. ALBERT ROBERTS

A link with early Westland and Ashburton has been severed by the death at Ashburton of Mr. Albert Roberts, aged 84. He was a native of Tasmania. IT© joined the Bank of Xew Zealand at Christchurch, awl from 1569 to IST 4 managed the Greenstone nad Hokitika branches. He had personal knowledge of the Sullivan bushrangers. From 1574 to 1879 ho managed the Ashburton branch.

MR. J. G. BURGESS

Born near Edinburgh S 4 years ago. Mr. James Gilbert Burgess has died in Hamilton. When he was 16 he arrived in New Zealand on the sailingship Mermaid. After being employed on the White Rock and Coldstream sheen stations in Canterbury, he managed several stations in that province and In Westland. On behalf of MessrsStudholme and Young he brought the first sheep to Te Akau. Raglan, on the ship Southern Cross. Undertaking the arduous work of breaking-in the T? Akau block. Mr. Burgess remain** there until 1901. Afterward he took over several holdings in the To -Aka' l and Ruakiwi districts, continuing J® work them until last year, when h® retired anti went to live in HamiltonHe is survived by his wife, two so® 5 and five daughters.

MR. G. A. ADLAM

Another veteran of the Maor* W*®* Mr. George Alfred Adlani, has di**d at Xew Plymouth, at the age of 9*Born in Wiltshire. Mr. Adlam in th 43rd Regiment and went to Indiaand in 1863 he came to Xew Zealan* with the regiment on the ship Lady Jocelyn. The following year he ordered to Tauranga and e? gaged *® several severe engagements going to New Plymouth late in tn | same year.
