UNINVITED GUEST
UNWELCOME VISIT PROVES EXPENSIVE DISTURBANCE AT OTAHUHU An uninvited visit to a house in Otahuhu resulted in Alfred Whye being charged in the Otahuhu Police Court yesterday with causing wilful damage and using obscene language. He was fined £2 on each charge and was ordered to pay £3 17s 6d damages and £1 15s costs. Evidence was given that about 9.30 p.m. defendant called at the house of a fellow worker in Otahuhu, who was out at the time. He asked for a boarder in the house. The wife of the householder said the boarder was not in, and defendant could not come in. Defendant pushed past her and swept a gramophone on to the floor, damaging it. He was put out of the house, and the door was then locked, but he broke a glass panel in it and re-entered through the opening. He was finally induced to go home. During the disturbance, accused was using bad language. He was under the influence of drink. Defendant claimed that he was being made the victim of an elaborate plan of blackmail, but the magistrate, Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., said his story was absurd.
