SHOP ASSISTANT ASSAULTED

PENALTY OF £5 IMPOSED From Our Own Correspondent WHANGAREI, Monday. Charged with being drunk and assaulting a female shop assistant, Charles Stewart appeared in the Whangarei Police Court today before Messrs. F. Farmer and H. Geisler, J.P.’s. Accused pleaded that he did not remember anything about the assault, and blamed drink for his acts. The Bench said that assaulting women in shops was a serious matter and fined accused £5, in default one month’s imprisonment.
