NORTHCOTE RATES

SLIGHT INCREASE PROPOSED The Northcote Borough Council has resolved to strike the following rates on July 22. A slight increase is shown. The consolidated rate will be 5.875 d in the £, an increase of 0.3882 d over last year, due mainly to the increase in the hospital levy and to the fact that houses that have fallen into the hands of the Crown have become nonrateable. This has affected both the general and special interest rates. The drainage interest rate will be 3.125 d in the £, an increase of o.lllßd. The water rate will be 3s 4d instead of Is 2d in the £. The sanitation charge will be Is a week, or £2 a year; and the refuse collection charge 2s a year. The total rates will be 92d in the £. an increase of 2d. Of this, 6.1484 d goes in payment of interest on loans and sinking fund, and 2d for water maintenance, leaving 2.8510 d for the maintenance of public works.
