Levien, S.M., in the Otahuhu Court Court this morning, for being intoxicated while in charge of a car. Mr. J. Sullivan apologised for the non-appearance of defendant, who was roo upset by the charge. All got out safely, but a woman member of the party insisted on re-entering the car. Traffic-Inspector Barrett said he found the three members of the party asleep in the car, and defendant wandering about the road. When asked who was the driver of the car he asked the inspector what it had to do with him. When told to come to the Otahuhu police station he said witness -‘would have to catch him first,” and then ran away. He was found in another three hours later waiting for his friends near the police station. When examined then Holmes appeared to be recovering from a severe drinking bout. Holmes had since bought a car, which had been involved in a similar accident last Friday.

The magistrate said defendant and his friends appeared have made a night of it. They had caken women for a joy ride,” who were either very far gone or well-experienced in these matters, aa three of the part}* had been found tucked up and asleep in the car. He supposed defendant was much in the same plight as the other occupants.
