Government j Gardens, on Friday. The event, which took the form of a “china evening,” was in honour of Miss K. Hockley. Airs. Chandley acted as hostess and received the guests wearing a silver beaded frock, trimmed with rhinestones. and bridge coat to match. Aliss K. Hockley wore floral ring velvet with blue chiffon velvet bridge coat. Airs. A. Brown won the women’s bridge tournament and Air. Goudie the men’s, consolation prizes being won by ; Miss K. Hockley and Mr. P. Basham. The winners of the 500 tournament were Airs. XV. A. McLean and Mr. Ewen: consolation prizes, Mrs. Jervis and Air. W. A. McLean. All chairs in the room were numbered, the winner of the lucky chair being Air. Russell, of Ceylon. The bride-to-be was the recipient of many beautiful and useful presents and Mr. F. Grove, on behalf of Aliss Hockley and himself, in a few brief words thanked their host for the most enjoyable evening and also thanked the guests present for the numerous beautiful gifts.
