ATHLETES’ FAREWELL
MEETING AT DOMAIN I | RUNNERS FOR EMPIRE GAMES | The farewell meeting of A. J. Elliott 8 and J. W. Savidan was held by the 8 Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle S Club at the Domain on Saturday after- 2 noon. These two men are leaving to- g morrow for the Empire Games at Ham- 8 ilton, Ontario. 2 Both of them performed well in 2 their respective efforts, Elliott running 2 second in the final of the 75 vards 2 sprint in a dead-heat with R. Willey, « Savidan finished fifth close up to the « leaders of the cross-country event, to 2 gain fastest time. The ground was 2 soft and uneven for the sprint, and 2 times were slower than usual. In the steeplechase, Clark and Me- \ Neil were the leaders the first time 3 past the grandstand, Turner following 2 at 100 yards distance. Thomas was \ five yards behind, and Brown led by \ 20 yards from Savidan at the rear, * about 700 yards behind the leaders. 3 After one lap had been covered Me- 2 Neil led, Thomas lying third 220 yards % behind on the hill. " « Savidan and Brown passed the stand j together the second time, but the 2 former passed him and the next turn 2 and started to hurry. McNeil was tiring 2 the last time over the hill, and Thomas 2 took tie lead. Clarke had fallen at \ a hurdle when he was tripped by a * * football, but ran on well to third « place, 50 yards behind McNeil, who 4 i was beaten by 10 yards. Savidan foJ- J , lowed T. E.
