WILHELM BACKHAUS

FAMOUS PIANIST’S RECITALS The remarkable interest that is being displayed in the Backhaus recitals is proved by the number of letters that have already been received by the E. J. Gravestock management asking for the inclusion of certain numbers in the third programme—the details of which have not yet been announced. As Mr. Backhaus always tries to comply as far as possible with requests, it is certain that at least a percentage of the letter-writers will have their wishes gratified during the season. The New Zealand tour will open at the Auckland Town Hall next Thursday night, and recitals will also be given on Saturday night next and on Monday, July 7. The details of the programme selected for next Thursday night have already been advertised. The box plans for the season opened this morning, when there was a brisk demand for seats.
