TO GO BY THE BOARD
REST-HOME PROTECT OF LAST YEAR FINANCIAL STRINGENCY 'THE SEX'S Parliamenta, J Reporter PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Today. One Government project was made a good deal of last year is certain to go by the board temporarily this year, and that is the setting up of destitute person’s rest homes provided for in the Act of that name. Provision was made in the Act for setting up such homes for those who had reached a time of life when they were no longer able to support themselves. Then the Government, on receipt. of an order from a magistrate, could harbour these unfortunates in rest homes, some of which were to be run in conjunction with existing homes of a similar character. The financial stringency, however, will make it necessary to defer the project. Negotiations have been in progress for the Government to take over an island in the Hauraki Gulf, now controlled by the Salvation Army, for rest home purposes, but these negotiations are now stated to have been stopped.
