N.S.W. Rugby League Takes Drastic Action
THE WEISSEL CASE
N.Z. MATCH TRANSFERRED In punishment for its attitude in the ‘Weissel incident” Temora was deprived of the Group D Rugby League match against New Zealand at last week's meeting of the New South Wales Rugby League. The country committee of the parent Pody had recommended the punishment to the Australian board of control, and a transfer of the match to i'oung. The board referred the matter to th* State League. The margin was carried by the narrow margin of nine votes to eight, after an hour’s discussion. Mr. J. Edwards (country committee) contended that if the League was going to control football in the estate, it should take a firm stand. The attitude of Weiss* L his guarantors, and the Temora league indicated that Temora was not pulling with the State League. Young, he said, was in the same group, more central, and capable of drawing. according to one authority, a £.400 gate. Mr. Quinlan ( ght t incident should be regarded as closed, but in future no player should be allowed to enter into an agreement with t country club that would prevent that player taking the field in an interstate or other important fixture. Mr. W. A. Cann warned the committee against any action that might penalise people not concerned in the specific incident at Temora. Mr. H. R. Miller (secretary) stated that the secretary of Group 6 had decided to recommend Cootamundra as the centre for the match. Mr. Edwards: They have had all the best matches already. Several delegates agreed that ti»~» League's attitude in the past had bee;; altogether too flattering to both Wei?scl and his guarantors. The match will be played against Group i) at Young on August 6.
