MAUI POMARE TROUBLE
LOOSE RIVETS FOUND UNDER ENGINE REPAIRS IN WELLINGTON From Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Today. Investigations in the engine room of the Government motor-ship Maui Pomare have disclosed the fact that there are large areas of loose riveting on the principal fuel tanks on which the main engines are bedded. It is thought that this discovery will enable tho trouble in the ship to be permanently ended. The rivets were packed with some material, which has fallen out, and it will be necessary to renew them on tha whole of tho tank tops. In order to do the work the engines will have to be lifted out, and this will be done at the Wellington wharves in the next few days.
In addition to renewing the rivets, aditional strengthening tv ill be provided to remove all possibility of vibration in the main engines while under load.
