BOAT-HOUSE SITES
WHAM AT Ak AT AKA BAY IS POPULAR HARBOUR BOARD PLANS XVhakatakataka Bay. below picturesque suburb of Orakei 3-' soon be the permanent site of -C boat-houses for many of Auckluwr big cruising launches. One for Mr. H. R. Jenkins is aW complete, and another beside it h' been started. The bay is a beautifully shelterM site for such a purpose, and the i,!? land Harbour Board proposes that boat-houses erected below orak should be ilose together. All private boat-houses are to built on th- eastern side of the brig ’ on the waiorfront road to Orakei hit thev must comply with the HarW Board r, eolations. The present onL are entered from the road runnii round the foot of the cliff, a7* chains round from the bridge n?aHobson Point and facing the slopes pKemuera. Several permits have already been granted to Kemuera launch-owners m erect boat-houses in the bay, and set. eral other applications have been iw ceived by the Harbour Board. time goes on it is quite probable thathe road along the foot of the cliff which leads to the new suburb "<T* Orakei will be lined with boat-shecs housing private launches. COMMERCIAL PURPOSES Similar provision is being made In the Harbour Board for those who wps lo build boat-houses in the bay f.-. commereial purposes. The site tp r these will be on the western side of the bridge, with entrances fr ■ waterfront road. Access to both sites will he eastand will not interfere in any «-a v with traffic along the roads. It is desirable that the boat-houses should he kept together, as in this way they will conform with all prv visions of the Town Planning Assn ciation. Launch-owners who live on Orakei will also be able to reach th* houses easily and quickly. Mr. Jenkins has built a big shed for his launch. it has a slip-wav running out into the water for son: distance, enabling the launch to b* hauled up inside the shed for repairand for the winter. Carpenters are at work on another shed close by antothers will be built shortly. Whakatakataka Bay is ideal for the purpose, and the bridge at Hobwti Point on the waterfront road is being raised to allow small craft to enter and leave the bay at all times. In time it will probably become the anchorage for all the launches whose owners live in the eastern suburb' of the City. This will also relieve the pressure on anchorages in St. Mar' s Bay.
