LARGE ESTATE REDUCED The Assessment Court yesterday made substantial reductions in the unimproved valuations of the Merrilands Estate. Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt. S.M.. presided, and associated with him were 31 r. E. Allen. Government assessor, 31 r. n; Onebu iga assessor. Mr. v. U. Barfoot, One Tree Hill assessor: and 3lr. G. B. Osmond, Ellerslie assessor. Six objections were heard yesterday, three from Onehunga, two from Ellerslie, and one from One Tree Hill; but apart from the 3lerrilands Estate, which is partly in Onehunga and partly in One Tree Hill, no important alterations were made. The capital value of the Onehunga portion of the estate was declared at £18,470. the unimproved value at £11,670, and the improvements at £6,770. 3lessrs. J. and J. Paterson, the owners, objected to the unimproved valuation, and contended that it should be reduced, and a corresponding increase made in the value of the improvements. The court reduced the unimproved valuation to £6,637, and increased the improvements to £11.833, the capital value being unchanged. In the One Tree Hill portion of the property, the capital value was declared at £13.045. the unimproved value at £8,575. and the improvements at £4,260.
