TE AWAMUTU CANDIDATES SLOW TIMES RECORDED Only horses with engagements at Te Awamutu on Saturday were galloped on number three grass track at Ellerslie this morning. The track was again very heavy and as a result times were slow. Land Measure, Merry Lu and Thunderstorm were associated over five furlongs, and after carving out the initial two smartly in 25, Land Measure gave way to Thunderstorm and Merry Lu, the former completing the journey in 1.8 1-5. Thunderstorm was eased toward the end, and Land Measure, although inclined to stop at the end of her work, appeared to be under restraint. Lay Form moved comfortably over half a mile in 56 4-5, and was running on freely at the post. After covering the first half of the journey in 43 1-5, Maori Boy wound up six furlongs in 1.25 2-5. It was an even working gallop. Lady’s Boy made 1.11 4-5 for five furlongs, and it was not until he got warmed up that he hit out at all kindly. Mountain Guide, Quincoma and Bennie went together for a round in 1.48, and they were doing it nicely on terms all the way. Improving Handicap per Hannibal jumped off smoothly for a seven furlongs essay, and in the middle stages clapped on the pace, to return 1.35 4-5. He ran the last six in 1.22, and the last five took 1.9 2-5. Hannibal has come on with every gallop since his short respite after winning at the recent Great Northern meeting, and on Saturday he may be a good prospect. Odin, who is to fulfil his Trentham engagements, was sent over a couple of circuits on the sand, sprinting toward the end of each round. CONVALESCING The jockey, R.
