MR. R. RENSHAW Mr. Reginald Renshaw, who died at Thames on Tuesday at the age of 46. wras born in Manchester and came to New Zealand 26 years ago. He engaged in farming in various places, and was keenly interested in sport. He was recognised as one of the be«t tennis players in the Bay of Plenty. He was also a good golfer and cricketer and was a steward of the Bay of Plenty Jockey Club. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughter.-. CAPTAIN WILLIAM GARDNER Captain William Samuel Gardner, at one time a well-known resident ©f the Manawatu. has died in Sydney. Born in England 86 years ago, he joined the Navy as a young man and saw service as a midshipman in the China. Sea. Later, joining the mercantile marine, he had an eventful career as a master mariner. When he retired from the sea he came to New Zealand and, taking up land at Fitasherbert East, became well known as a breeder of Shropshire sheep. He leaves a widow and one daughter. MR. S. JONES A respected resident of Coromandel. Mr. Samuel Jones, died on Tuesday after an illness of only two hours. He had attended Monday’s meeting of the Coromandel Hospital Board, of which he was chairman, and on Tuesday morning appeared to be in his usual health. Mr. Jones, who was s•> years of age. was keenly interested in local politics, being a member of the Coromandel County Council, the District Highways Council and the Thames Licensing Committee. MR. CLAUDE C. COURTENAY Mr. Claude C. Courtenay, of Mount Maunganui. whose death has occurred at Tauranga, was born in London 66 years ago, and came to New Zealand at the age of 25. Joining the Customs Department, he was for many years harbourmaster at Omapere. After holding a position at Auckland, he resigned from the department, and went to live at Opotiki, wh p re he practised as an accountant. Mr. Cou-tenay moved to Mount Maunganui some years ago. He is survived by his wife, two daughters—Mrs. W. (Tiitty of Whangarel, and Mrs. C. West, of Wellington—and one son. Mr. Aubrey Courtenay, of Mount Maunganui. MR. WILLIAM HESLOR The death has occurred in Hasting of Mr. XV illiam Heslop. a Hawke’s Bay pioneer and a Maori War veteran. He was born at Blackhill, Northumberland, England, in 1845, and came to New Zealand 10 years later. At one time he was owner of the Omaranui Estate, where the historical battle was fought. He was one of the officials of the first agricultural show in Hawke's Bay in 1863. and before his retirement carried off many awards in successive shows. He also acted as a. judge for sheep and horses. His wife predeceased him five veai-* ago. He leaves two sons. Mr. G. Heslop, of Wairoa. and Mr. Harold Heslop. of Kaikohe: and three daughters.
