ANDREWS WINS AGAIN
I A BRILLIANT VICTORY OVER BRUGNON
MALFROY LOSES SINGLES United P.J. —By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 10.50 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. In the second round of the tennis tournament at Wimbledon, E. D. Andrews (New Zealand) beat Brugnon (France), 6—3, 5 —7, 6 —3, 6 —o. Crawford (Australia) beat Madan Mohan (champion of the Punjab). Hop-man (Australia) beat Wilde (Britain). Cochet beat Malfrcy (New Zealand). 6 —l, 6—2, 7—5. Borotra beat Lee (Britain). Andrews lived up to his reputation as a giant-killer, which he gained in 1928, when he defeated the. American, Hunter. Today he surprisingly defeated Brugnon. The New Zealander used his powerful build and strength successfully, immediately forcing the pace. Driving with great power and precision, he gave a brilliant exhibition, and made few mistakes. Brugnon’s beautiful collection of strokes enabled him to take the second set, but after that Andrews maintained a pace which was too hot for the Frenchman. Simultaneously, another New Zealander, Malfrov, was putting up a gallant fight against Cochet, but this time France triumphed. Malfroy’s attractive style was impressive, but he was insufficiently experienced to worry the champion.
