FARCICAL FINISH
COMIC OPERA CRICKET IN LANCASHIRE
AUSTRALIAN MATCH DRAWN United P..4. —8y Telegraph Copyright Reed. 10.15 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. The cricket match between the Australians and Lancashire was drawn. There is much indignation because of Australia’s refusal to declare about luncheon time yesterday. The spectators wanted to see the game fought to a finish instead of affording the Australians batting practice preparatory to the second test match. As a result only about 300 people were present today. There is a strong opinion that such an important match should never have been arranged at this stage. At stumps yesterday, Australia had In the first innings made 427, and Lancashire had scored 90 without loss. Watson by luckily snicking one from Hornibrook to the boundary raised the 100 in 110 minutes. In Wall’s next over Hurwood at second slip badly missed Hallows, who was then 39. However, he had added only three when he gave Woodfull'at square leg an easy catch. The partnership had yielded 110, the best recorded by any county against Australia on the tour. Watson, after batting for 150 minutes and hitting nine fours, was dismissed by a good catch at the wicket. Hurwood and Hornibrook worried the batsmen after lunch, but tbe play dragged on dully until Iddon was run out.
T'he total was now 3 for IGS. Rain interrupted the play for 25 minutes. Hopwood hit McCabe for three successive fours and the 200 was raised for 250 minutes. His bright partnership with Tyldesley added 06 before .Fairfax took Hopwood’s middle stump. Four were out for 231. Two wickets then fell to successive balls, and all the last six batsmen offered a pitiful resistance, adding only 28 runs. Fairfax, in the last spell, took four wickets for 16. McCabe and Richardson went in for a brief xiractice. Rain caused another delay before a miserable match came to a farcical end. Taylor kept wickets, while even Duckworth, Hallows and Tyldesley bowled. .
