MUSICAL COMEDIES COMING
“LOVE LIES” FOR HIS MAJESTY’S
It is over three months since Auck land playgoers were last privileged to enjoy a visit from a professional theatrical company-, so for this reason alone more than the usual amount of interest will probably be taken in the initial productions here of the two latest London Gaiety theatre musical comedy successes, “Love Lies” and “So This is Love.” They are to be staged at His Majesty’s Theatre during a brief season, under the direction of Richard White and Eric Edgley, beginning on Saturday, July o. Both “Love Lies” and “So This is Love” ran for upwards of 12 months in London and they have just concluded record seasons in Australia. The London cast of “Love Lies” included Madge Elliott, Cyril Richaris and Stanley Lupino. Two clever E*jlish artists in Miss Rita McLean and Mr. Michael Cole wen» engaged by Messrs. White and Edgley to take the place of the two former artists in the Australian and New Zealand representations and, of course, the Stanley Lupino role will be taken by the ever popular comedian, Mr. Clem Da we.
Clem Dawe is undoubtedly one of the best and most popular comedians who has ever appeared in New Zealand and special interest will be centred on his debut here in a musical comedy, as in the past we have enjoyed him in revues. Two other well-known London artists who will make their first appearance here in “Love Lies” are Miss Betty Eley and Mr. Bobby Gordon, singers and dancers. Playgoers will be glad to welcome back to New Zealand Miss Marie Eaton. Mr. Dan Agar, Mr. Paul Plunkett, Miss Mona Barlee and Mr. Les White. The ensembles and original ballets are a special feature of both “Love Lies” and “So This is Love.”
