45 WORKERS DISMISSED

ADDINGTON RAILWAY SHOPS RETRENCHMENT EFFORT From Our Otcn Correspondent CHRISTCHURCH, Today. Forty-five men employed at the Addington railway workshops received notice of dismissal on Monday, the notices to take effect from next Monday. The men, who are classed as permanent casuals, include tradesmen of all kinds. The reason for their dismissal is given as lack of work. Commenting on the subject today. Mr. E. J. Howard, M.P., said it looked as if the Government was unduly alarmed. “There is any amount of work standing about in the yards at Addington,” said Mr. Howard. “The result of this probably will be that we will be faced with another wagon shortage when the busy season starts and the country will be hung up j again. One thing that the Labour | Party will do when the House meets I on Thursday will be to analyse the ‘ position thoroughly.”
