PONSONBY BRANCH The fortnightly meeting of the Ponsonby branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held in St. Stephen’s Hall on Thursday afternoon, Miss Read presiding. Airs. Driver was the speaker for the afternoon, her subject being, “The Women of the King’s Highway.” The following resolution was passed by the meeting:—“We, the members of the Ponsonby branch of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, recommend that stricter supervision be given to cabarets and dance halls, and that a condition of licensing same be that no person be allowed on premises
under the influence or in possession of intoxicating liquor.” MEETING AT OTAHUHU There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Otahuhu branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union, held in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian School Hall on Thursday afternoon. Captain Martien conducted the devotional portion of the meeting, after which Airs. Eccersall, president of the branch, presided. Captain ATartien and the president gave very interesting addresses on White Ribbon Day, and what it stands for.
