MAJESTIC
“SARAH AND SON”
When a film in which mother love plays a big part is to be made, who can produce it with better feeling than women artists of film craft?
Paramount’s general manager of productions at Hollywood pondered that question some months ago, and his answer is seen in “Sarah and Son,” which is now at the Majestic Theatre.
The director of “Sarah and Son” is Dorothy Arzner, Paramount’s only woman director and one of the few women engaged in that profession. The star of this powerful film is Ruth Chatter ton, who lias such successful pictures to her credit as “The Doctor’s Secret,” “Charming Sinners,” and “The Laughing Lady.” The adaptor who wrote the screen story from the original novel is Zoe Atkins, novelist, poet and playwright. She has many stage successes to her credit.
That almost makes it an “all woman film,” seeing that the principal work was done by women. But the mere men were given small parts to do. Frederic March supports Miss Chatterton in the leading male role. A full supporting programme is also being shown.
