STRAND
“HEARTS IN EXILE” “Hearts in Exile,” which continues to be shown at the Strand Theatre, is an unusual story of love and political intrigue in Russia. The three central characters, Vera Ivanova (played by Dolores Costello, the star). Paul Pavloff (Grant Withers) and Baron Serge Palma (James Kirkwood), form a triangle that runs a dramatic course and reaches a startling climax. Miss Costello has a splendid story here. It is ideally suited to her talents and appealing beauty. In the ; role of the Russian peasant girl she will arouse a new wave of enthusiasm among her many admirers. This picture establishes her firmly as the outstanding star of the silver screen. Grant Withers, James Kirkwood. George Fawcett and David Torrence do splendid work. Withers is, without a doubt, the most promising leadI ing man of filmdom. The scenes of “Hearts in Exile,” laid in Siberia and the slums of Moscow, are interesting and realistic, due to the capable direction of Michael Curtiz. Altogether, this is a film you should see. A particularly fine talkie programme j is shown in support.
