EMPRESS, NEWTON

“Puttin’ on the Ritz,” at the Empress Theatre, is United Artists’ most pretentious production since the arrival of sound pictures, in music, dance numbers, settings and cast. The picture introduces Richman, star of musical comedies, night clubs, radio and phonograph, to the screen. Joan Bennett plays the feminine lead opposite Richman, and prominent in the cast are James Gleason, Lilyan Tashman, Aileen Pringle, Richard Tucker, Eddie Kane. Purnell Pratt and others. Edward Sloman directed the picture, which is based on an original screen story by John W. Considine.
