WEDNESDAY'S P AYERS INVERCARGILL, Monday Tho British team this morning divided, some going to Mount Cook and others coming to Invercargill. Mount Cook party included Front; . Martind .I. . Black. Morley. Bowcot . Tho Invercargill detachment travelling South today through snowbound country swept by frequent storms exvoted by the discomforts of travel 2a draughty, unheated carriages, the cold being so keen that the players stamped up and down the aisles trying to keep warm, while one ingenious member of the party even made a. small fire with newspapers on the carriage floor to A feature of the journey were the snowfights at wayside stations. As the team was travelling in different cars rivalry between the cars was expressed in fierce battles at Waiwera and Clinton, but at Gore, where the snow on the platform was several inches deep, outsiders joined in so that the team united against a common foe in a hearty set-to, watched with great interest by a large crowd of onlooker?*, till the spectators themselves begun to. be hit by stray shots. Arriving at Invercargill the team was met for the first time so far on the tour by the mayor resplend« nt in his official robe?. A brief wcl< » . was tendered in tho presence of large crowd outside the station, but as the cold was intense no one sorry when it was over.
