PENNY TRAM FARE
TRIP FROM DILWORTH BLDG. TO NEW STATION TWO PENCE TO WELLESLEY The Transport Board decided this morning that tlie tram fare between the Dilworth Building and the new railway station, a distance of 53 chains, shall be one penny. The manager, Mr. A. E. Ford, reported that when in Wellington recently he had conferred with the general manager of railways about the running rights to and from the new station to Queen Street. Mr. Ford suggested to the general manager that he was prepared to recommend the board to provide for a penny section between the station and the intersection of Queen and Customs Streets, and for a twopenny section for cars running through to Wellesley Street. The Railway Department was prepared to execute a deed immediately, giving the board running rights for 25 years at a peppercorn rental, provided the board agrees to his suggestion, said Mr. Ford. The distance from the railway station to the intersection of Queen Street and Customs Street was 53 chains, and the distance between the Beach Road exit and tlie intersection of Queen and Customs Streets, 42 chains. The distance from the station to Wellesley Street was approximately 88 chains.
Mr. Ford’s negotiations were approved.
