HAWERA TRIALS

GALLOPING AND SCHOOLING HONOURS TO PIKIMAI The* Hawera tracks were heavy on Saturday after overnight rain. but were quit© workable, and some useful gallops were accomplished by horses engaged at Hawera tomorrow and at Trentham a fortnight lienee. On the trial grass Tentcall and Ngawhine were sent three furlongs down the back in 41, both going well. Mendip, Mount Shannon and Orazone went well, considering the going, over six furlongs. Orazone was slowest to get moving, but the three were well together at the half-mile, which was run in 54. Mendip finished a shade in front of Mount Shannon, with Orazone two lengths back in 1.21. Coalbag and Araukuku were companions over five furlongs. Coalbag finished better by a neck in 1.10. Kiosk, Gowanlea and Prince Desmond traversed four furlongs in 53 4-5. Kiosk, with a ligl;it-weight, was a head in front.at the finish. The two-year-olds Gasfield and the Acre —Marsuma colt were given a sprint up the straight, handling themselves well. The jumpers Airtight. Copey and Coma galloped six furlongs in 1.24 1-5, Airtight finishing in front of the others. Schooled Brilliantly Pikimai (Conway) gave another capital display over a round of schooling hurdles, his jumping being wellnight perfect. Biforte finished two lengths in front of Richland over a half-mile in 57. Richland did not handle the heavy going well. The steeplechaser Maidos (Conway) went a round of the big country, leaving out the sod wall, jumping splendidly throughout, and afterwards galloping a round of the flat at a good pace. Anbridge shaped well in the heavy going, beating Banbridge by a neck over a half-mile in 54*. On the sand track Calamine by herself galloped three furlongs in 42. Son o’ Mine had too much pace for Just John over one round. Waitaunaha worked twice round at half pace. Valpre, Four Roods and Double Red were all exercised on the tracks.
