COLONIES WILL MEET IN CONFERENCE OPENING TOMORROW British Official "Wireless Rccd. Noon. RUGBY, Sunday. The Colonial Governors’ Conference is to be opened at the Colonial Office tomorrow by Lord Passfieid, Secretary for the Colonies. The conference is held in accordance with a suggestion made at the first conference in 1927 that such meetings should be held at triennial intervals for the consideration of questions of importance to the Colonies. Nearly the whole of the colonial territory, which has an approximate area of 2,000,000 square miles and supports a population of about 50,000,000, lies within the tropics. Administratively, financially and legislatively each colony is selfcontained, and there is a wlde diversity of race, language, resources and need. But they have a common interest in certain services, such as medicairagricultural and public works, regarding which the periodical exchange of views is regarded as valuable.

The conference which opens tomorrow is expected to sit for about three weeks, and there will be three main subjects for discussion, namely: (1) Colonial development, with special reference to the working and application of the colonial develop ment fund.

(2) The Administration of scientific and technical services and (3) Problems of colonial administration in general.
