CADET SHOOTING AWARDS
PRESENTATION OF MEDALLIONS Eight cadets of the 'Auckland Grammar School, and two of St. Stephen’s School, who scored 75 points out of a possible 100 in the miniature rifle .-hooting competition for the King’s Trophy, were presented with bronze medallions yesterday by Brigadier H. It. Potter. The boys who received the awards were:—J. Reimers, A. A. Duncan, E. A. IL. Etheridge, J. C. Graham, E. Holmes, U. W. Larsen, D. Newberry and C. R. Newton-King, all of Auckland Grammar: and T. Teuana and P. Whirua, of St. Stephen’s. Tho King’s Trophy was presented in 19-5 for competition between teams, as far as possible, representative of tho full strength of Great Britain and the Dominions. The medallions bear this inscription: "For special distinction. Presented by the King to encourage youth in the hope that friendly competition and efficient training may help to forge new links of Empire.” Brigadier Potter, in presenting the medallions, observed that while New Zealand was the smallest Dominion, it had furnished the largest number of competitors this y«ear, totalling 13.147, compared with South Africa’s 11,929 and Great Britain’s 6.350. The brigadier reminded the boys that while their individual effort had won the medallions, they were really actuated in their endeavour by a team spirit, and the honour was not so much theirs as their school’s. The greatest distinction in the competition was gained by Cadet McGee, of the 43rd Company, Parnell, who won a silver medallion presented by the King for cadets who scored 100 per cent, in the competition. This is rhe first time that such a medallion has been awarded in New Zealand.
