CARS CHASED 35 MILES
LONDON-JrfAIDSTONE THRILL After a 35-mile chase from Maidstone to London recently, three men were arrested in connection with the iheft of two motor-cars at Maidstone earlier y in the evening. At least four men were concerned in stealing the cars. The men were seen to enter the cars and drive toward London. Phone Warning Immediately they were informed. Maidstone police officers set off in pursuit, while warning telephone messages were sent to policemen on duty along the Maidstone- London Road. Police-Constable Goodall, on point duty at Wrotham. noticed a car pass at high speed. He at once commandeered a small car and followed. Unable to catch the other car, he jumped out of the small car and commandeered a larger one. 50 M.P.H. Chase The chase was continued almost at 50 miles an hour to Lewisham Clock Tower. Here an officer on point duty put out an arm to hold up the fugitive car. Instead of stopping, the driver swerved to the wrong side of the road, and came into liead-on collision with another car. The three suspects got out and ran away. Police-Constable Goodall dashed across the road, and after a hot chase on foot made an arrest in Lee Road. London police officers ran after the other men, and a second arrest was made in Ladywell. In the meantime Superintendent Austin, of Mailing, had arrested a third man, suspected of being concerned in the theft of a car which was found abandoned at Farningham.
