“Yard" to Have Women Detectives A NEW CAREER Very feminine detectives are to bo employed by Scotland Yard. They will mix with all kinds of people, from the crowds at weddings to aliens engaged in dope and white slave traffic. A criminal who is on the look-out for the usual type of plain-clothes detective may find himself arrested by a smartly dressed young woman wearing the very latest in Paris hats. A Woman's Idea Miss Peto, who was recently put in charge of the women police at Scotland Yard, intends to make a big change. lustead of the frigidly dressed policewoman of today, she envisages a corps of smart, well educated young women working in close co-operation with the criminal investigation department at the Yard. Women will bo trained as motordrivers and mechanics, and will be engaged on “special service” with the flying squad. According to the current issue of the “Police Review,” Miss Peto wants to secure women of good education for the work, and she offers them a career which is “really worth while.” College Training After selection, the women will attend a college where emphasis will be placed on the correct methods of obtaining information to assist the n.f.D. Before leaving the college to rake up detective duties, they will be required to pass an examination equal to matriculation. “Special attention.” it is stated in the “Police Review,” “will be given :o training in modern languages and to certain branches of detective work. Observation work in relation to aliens suspected of being engaged in white slave and dope traffic is mentioned in this connection, and ‘shadow’ wojk in tracking confidence tricksters and fashionable thieves at functions.”
