COUNTY EXPENSE REDUCED
ROAD REPAIRS NEEDED Measures are being taken to reduce | expenditure in the Waitemata County ; following the instructions issued, at a I recent meeting,' of the County Council, a report from the engineer, Mr. Andrew j Murray, says. - Six weeks will elapse before the ! accounts for work already committed j are submitted to be passed for final payment, so the expenditure will wrongly appear to be heavy. Many of the roads in the county have become worn, following wet weather and works have necessarily been put in hand which otherwise would have been postponed. Further work on the main highways concerned is required, but the roads, the report states, will have to be allowed further to deteriorate unless funds are made available. The surface condition of the Titirangi main highway is unsatisfactory', but every effort will be made to keep the road open during the winter.
