ENGLISH CHAIR AT BELFAST EX-AUCKLAND MAN Mr. F. W. Baxter, an old boy of the Auckland Grammar School, has been appointed to the chair of English at the University of Belfast, according to private advice received in Auckland. Mr. Baxter, who until recently has been lecturer at the University of Leeds, was a student at the Auckland University after leaving the Grammar School. lie enlisted during the Great War, at the conclusion of which he won a British Expeditionary Force scholarship. At Oxford he graduated with first-class honours in English, and also won the Charles Oldham Shakespereau scholarship. Before accepting the position at Leeds, he was lecturer in English at London ' University and at McGill University, Canada.
