PLANES CARRY FOOD
TOWNS ISOLATED BY FLOODS IN N.S.W. PEOPLE FLOAT ON HAY STACKS Reed. 10.5 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. Tremendous damage was done in the Hunter Valley by the floods. The roads have become canals and a motor-boat made an extensive tour of what normally was dry ground. Many residents of Hexham spent Thursday night on the roof-tops. They were rescued by a flood-boat. Another family was picked up exhausted after spending the night on a floating haystack. Many people who are isolated in the North Coast towns have been without supplies for days. They will receive necessities by airplanes, which left Sydney yesterday. Rain has now ceased to fall in the flooded country districts and sJI further danger is believed to be over. The "roofs of 75 houses on the Hexham coalfield are just showing above the flood "waters. At East Greta the colliery workings are flooded and the mine may have to be abandoned.
