A Billiardist’s Breathing
Any morning during the voyage of the R.M.S. Maloja to Sydney (says the Sydney “Sun”), a lonely figure might have been seen standing at the deck rail, filling his lungs to their utmost capacity. It was the billiardist, Clark McConachy keeping fit. McConachy said on arrival that there was little beyond this exercise that a billiardist could do at sea to keep in
form, although deck games helped to keep the eye in. tie remarked . that a billiard table that had been installed in H.M.S. Renown maintained a steady level, despite the rolling of the ship, but vibration was another factor which had to be contended with. Not until a billiard table could be so installed as to be free from ship vibration would billiards be satisfactory at sea, said the famous New Zealander.
