BANKRUPT’S CONDUCT

“UNSATISFACTORY CASE” • The case has been very unsatisfactory and there is no doubt that an application for discharge will be opposed,” said Mr. A. W. Watters, official assignee, at the adjourned meeting of creditors of Vesta Doree Hayhow, grocer and draper, of Great North Road, this morning. At the first meeting, bankrupt was examined at length and dissatisfaction with her conduct was expressed by creditors. This morning the question of whether bankrupt’s associate in business was a partner or an employee was discussed. The official assignee said he had examined the young woman in question, who had told him that she was an employee at £2 a week and that although her name was on the w'indow. together with bankrupt’s, she was not a partner. One creditor said he was of the opinion that a prima facie case of partnership had been proved, but another creditor said that bankrupt’s employee had told him when the crash came that she had been in the dark regarding bankrupt’s position. A tender of £9O for the stock and fittings had been accepted, said the official assignee. The case had been very unsatisfactory and although bankrupt had told many untruths in the past, he had no reason to believe that she was not telling the truth when on her oath.
