A WINTER VISITOR

CARDINAL LOGAN AT EPSOM always pays a dividend No Horse racing at Alexandra Park Has a better winter record than Cardinal Logan, who has not paying a dividend since the Auckland fixture was altered to June. In IS- 6 the Auckland Trotting Club altered its calendar for the final session of the season, and the carnival previously held in the autumn was arranged for mid-win ter, at which period it has since been held. Among . strong Southern contingent to be Attracted by the fine programme was A Hendricksen with his pacer Cardiol Logan, who, at that time, was on a 433 mark. On the opening day ho was runner-up to that good mare, Logan Lou, arid the next time out placed on 4 32,’ and elected a good favourite, Cardinal Logan was defeated by Imprint, who was then at the peak of his form. The Logan Pointer gelding returned to Epsom the following June and contested the Campbell Handicap off 4.29. A. Hendrickson’s charge went a solid race, but had to strike his colours to Terence Dillon, a young pacer just ascending the ladder of success. Tha Cardinal had his turn the second day when he won the Au Revoir Handicap off 2.45, being first fancy. In Gold Jacket's successful year (1925)

Cardinal Logan was unplaced in the C. F. Mark Memorial from 4.27, but when the Au Revoir Handicap came up for decision Hendricksen’s pacer again caught the prize, being handicapped at 2.44 i. Last Year’s Form Last winter the big pacer made another pilgrimage to Alexandra Park, where his mark was 4.27 in the Prince of Wales Handicap. Elected second favourite. Cardinal Logan did not pay a dividend, but got the small end of the purse behind the dead-heaters, Padlock and Dundas Boy. On the final day, set a similar handicap. Albert H. drove his candidate to victory in the Mark Memorial, defeating the favourite. Kohara, and thus adding further success to a wonderful winter record. Cardinal Logan once more figures in the Auckland winter card and from 4.27 in the Mark Memorial Handicap he is entitled to respect. Ho has proved himself a past master in heavy going, and if he gets tho footing to his particular fancy during the carnival, the son of Logan Pointer will make a gallant effort to uphold and enhance his Epsom winter record. The gelding is getting up in years and may not pay any more winter visits to Auckland, and may say “Au Revoir’* to his admirers on Mondaj’.
