In the Market Place

APPLES FROM COOLER BEST DEMAND FOR COOKERS Auckland is now drawing a large proportion of its apples from coq! storage, and fairly large quantities are being offered daily at the City Markets. Most dessert lines, especially Delicious, are dull of sale, but cookers are meeting with a fair response. Pears were slow of sale at this morning's auction, and oranges met with only a fair demand. Hothouse grapes were sold in fair quantities, as there were no Australian grapes on the market. Hothouse tomatoes were a little easier in value. Lemons met with a good demand. Other lines were about the same as last week. The market was heavily supplied with cabbages, cauliflowers, lettuces, and celery. A good supply of all other vegetables in season met with a fair demand. Supplies of poultry were good, and the demand keen. Cockerels of all classes were very scarce, and prices high. Strong competition among buyers for good quality hens of all breeds kept their values well up to their recent i*ise. Bucks and drakes were penned in average jiumbers, selling well throughout the sale. Very few laying pullets were offered today, and a keen inquiry saw these return late rates.
