OVERCOME BY SMOKE
PESCUED FROM FIRE BY PARTNER WELLINGTON MAN'S ESCAPE Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. ; When escaping from a fire in a ser- - Vice station at Khandallah early this ; morning, Mr. J. Travis, one of the pro- I prietors, was overcome by heavy smoke ! and had to be carried to safety by his j partner, Mr. IT. B. Powell. The two men were sleeping above the station when the lire broke out • shortly after 3 o'clock. Powell awak- j <-.qed Travis and the men had to break j * window to escape. Travis col- j lapsed while making his way out, and 1 Powell, although himself affected by the smoke and fumes, dragged him clear. The fire damaged a stock of new tyres and oil and machinery. The I building was insured in the South « British Insurance Co. for £3OO, and the | stock was insured in the Union office for £2OO. The cause of the fire is thought to have been a short-circuit in the ignition of a motor-car. L_y---
