COLEMAN CRASHES
FALL IN JUNIOR T.T. MAY RIDE IN SENIOR RACE i Special to THE SUN MART ON, Today. Advice has been received by Mr. W. A. Spragg, president of the New Zealand Auto-Cycle Union, that Percy Coleman, New Zealand’s official representative at the Tourist Trophy motorcycle races at the Isle of Man, crashed during the first round of the junior race on Monday. He was not hurt and is expected to be able to ride in the senior event on Friday. When Coleman left the Dominion it | was not known in which of the three * classes lie would compete, but he en- j tered finally in the junior and senior ; events. Ho has held the New Zea- j land heavy-weight championship for j the past seven years, and is consid- j ered the Dominion’s fastest rider on the grass track. He has done little \ road racing until lie went to the Isle \ of Man, and failed to qualify until j nearly the full fortnight of training j was over. Coleman's victories of recent years j have all been achieved riding a heavy machine twice as powerful as those j of most senior riders here, and the fact > that the junior series is restricted to ! light machines of under 350 c.c. cap- j acity may have contributed to his j accident. At the same time he would ; find it necessary .to pilot his junior ; mount over a winding macadam road j course at much the same speed as lie j rode his large machine on the track, j An Auckland rider, Lon Coulthard. » also went to England to compete in j the T.T. races but. after covering sev- j eral practice laps at high speeds, be ■ was prevented from riding by order i of the New Zealand Auto-Cycle Union. . which had disqualified him last year j for a technical breach in .riding on an unregistered track.
