WORK BY AMBULANCE
ORDER OF ST. JOHN HOLDS ANNUAL MEETING VICEREGAL INTEREST Great interest in the work o£ the St. John Ambulance Association in Auckland was shown by his Excellency the Governor-General, in a recent visit to the ambulance station in Rutland Street. “The aides-de-camp had some difficulty in inducing Lord Bledisloe to continue on to another engagement,” said Mr. George Baildon, president of the Auckland centre, at the 3Sth annual meeting, held last evening. 1 “His Excellency spent so long examining' the ambulance downstairs and I asking questions of the officer in i charge that we quite thought he i would ask someone to run over him ■ just to get a ride in the vehicle.” The president referred during the evening to the gift by the Auckland | Savings Bank of £5,500, which had enabled improvements to be made to the building, and has helped considerably in carrying on the work. “While it is true that our finances appear to be in a flourishing condition, there is real need for economy,” said Mr. C. J. Tunks, chairman of i the committee. He pointed out that the balance of £4ll standing to the credit of the District Nursing Service must be made to last for some months until the next street collection is held. Long service certificates, bars and medals were presented by the Mayor and the Mayoress, Mrs. A. D. Campbell, presented certificates, medallions, medallion labels and nursing pendants. Also on the platform were the Rev. G. E. Moreton, chaplain to the order, Dr. R. Tracy Inglis, Dr. N. Wood, ■ Dr. Claude E. A. Coldieutt, corps sur- : seon, and Mr. F. J. I A motion of sympathy was passed j with Mr. William Rattray, secretary, I who was unable to be present owing |to injuries received in an accident j some time ago. His son, Mr. C. M.
