STRAND
“HEARTS IN EXILE” ■ • i The current programme at the j Strand Theatre will have its final pre- j sentation there this evening. This i includes “Slightly Scarlet,” the charming talkie starring Evelyn Brent and Clive Brook, and “The Girl from Woolworth’s,” Alice White’s latest talkie. Now that Grant Withers has registered such a phenomenal success in Warner Brothers’ productions, screen fans as well as stars are selecting him as the most likely candidate for the type of roles made popular by Wallace Reid. Grant is a strapping young giant, 6ft Sin tall, and is not unlike Reid in appearance. He also has that same likeable quality and ready smile which so endeared the late idol to the hearts of theatregoers. The .latest appearance of young Withers is opposite Dolores Costello in the leading male z*ole of “Hearts in Exile,” a Warner Brothers production, which will be seen at the Strand Theatre tomorrow. This lavishly produced picture tells a stirring story of a romantic love triangle amid the snows of Siberia, and is adding still furthers to the swiftly mounting popularity of Withers. Other players appearing prominently in Miss Costello's support are James Kirkwood, George Fawcett, David Torrence, Olive Tell, Rose Dione, Lee Moran, and Tom Dugan. Michael Curtiz directed, and the se'enaria was adapted by Harvey Gates from the play by John Oxenham. This is a story of intrigue in Russia. The three central characters, Vera Ivanova (played by Dolores Costello, the star), Paul Pavloff (Grant Withers). and Baron Serge Palma (James Kirkwood), form a triangle that runs a dramatic course, and reaches a startling climax. REDUCED PRICES A special announcement is made by the Strand management that, commencing on Friday, a new and lower schedule of prices will be in force for all parts of the theatre, and for all sessions. Greta Garbo lias to share her affections between tw r o monkeys on the set where she is making “Romance.” The monks betrayed so much jealousy* during the first day’s work that the Swedish star has to take care in distributing her pats impartially.
