CROSSING VICTIMS
BURIAL IN CHRISTCHURCH RESPECT FOR ENGINEDRIVER Press Association CHRIST CHURC H, AYe d nesda y. The funerals of three of the victims of the Sockburn railway-crossing tragedy took place today. The bodies of Miss Isabella ID. Brand, matron of the Templeton Mental Hospital; Mr. Ralph A. M. Smith, driver of the motor-car; and Mr. Charles W. Smith, the engined river, were buried at the Bromley Cemetery. The funeral of Miss Brand was private, but was attended by Dr. T. G. Gray, Director-General of Mental Hospitals, Dr. A. O. McKillop, superintendent of the Sunnyside Mental Hospital, and members of the staffs at Sunnyside and Templeton. Mr. Ralph Smith’s funeral was also attended by Dr. Gray and hospital officers. A crowd of 1,000 people attended the funeral of Mr. C. W. Smith. The service was conducted by Salvation Army officers. Among those present were many representatives of the railway service.
