NEW TAMAKI BRIDGE

PLANS TO BE PREPARED “It appears that we are at last going to reach some iinality with the erection of the new Tamaki Bridge,” said Mr. F. M. Waters, chairman of the Manukau County Council, at a meeting yesterday. A letter was received from the Main Highways Board advising that subsidies would be granted at tho rate of £3 for £1 on the estimated cost of filling and surfacing, and £2 for £1 on the estimated cost of tho bridge. Tho agreement, it was would mean that £1,620 would have to be provided by the two local bodies concerned, the Manukau County Council and tho Otahuhu Borough Council. It was suggested that the former’s engineer should prepare and submit detailed plans, so that tenders could be called and the work put in hand. Mr. Waters said the only difficulty was that, by setting the Manukau engineer to work on the plans, the other body was avoiding the cost. It was decided to instruct the engineer to begin preparing the plans. A sub-committee was appointed to interview the Otahuhu body and attempt an agreement on the apportionment of the preliminary costs.
