RAILWAY CONTROL
DIRECTORATE SUGGESTED REFORM PARTY’S POLICY Special to THE SUN PAPAROA, Tuesday. Tliat political control o£ the Railway Department should be removed, and that it should be managed by a board ot control was advocated by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of the Opposition, in an address this evening. He said the policy of the Reform Party was to remove the railways from political control and transfer the management to a directorate. The latter should consist of from 13 to 15 members with the general manager as chairman. Mr. Coates said the State railways in Canada, Belgium and Germany were being operated on methods similar in principle to the policy he proposed. The results had proved that independence of political control was the most effective means of eliminating the unsatisfactory features of the present system.
