Should Arapuni Link With Waikaremoana?
POWER BOARDS TO CONFER BAY OF PLENTY' SCHEME From Our Own Correspondent OPOTIKI, Today. Dealing with questions in connection with the restricted supply of electricity brought about by the closing down of Arapuni generating plant, the Bay of Plenty Power Board has decided to convene a conference of representatives of power boards concerned, with a view to making representations to the Government to expedite the linking up of the Waikaremoana supply with the Arapuni lines. It is pointed out that were the suggestion carried into effect it would not merely provide sufficient current for the Bay of Plenty aud Rotorua areas, but also make up the deficiency in the supply for all other areas affected by the Arapuni stoppage. The proposed route of the Waikaremoana line is via Te Whaiti, Galatea, down the Rangitaiki River to connect at Edgecumbe with lines from Arapuni. POLICY OF SILENCE MINISTER’S EXPLANATION AWAITING EXPERTS’ REPORTS Press Association DUNEDIN, Tuesday. Referring to the Auckland protest against the instructions to the engineers at Arapuni to refuse information, the Minister of Public Works, the W. B. Taverner, says the Government has called for a geological report to bo followed by the engineers’ recommendations. When both have been received, the Government will consider what is to be done. Until the reports have been received there are no reliable premises on which to base conclusions.
