MILLET GETS ONE YEAR FOR BAD CHEQUES COPIED PAINTER’S SIGNATURE Reed. 1 p.m. PARIS, Tuesday. Jean Chas. Millet, who was charged at the instance of the Thompson Art Gallery, London, has been sentenced to one year's imprisonment for passing worthless cheques. It was revealed in a cable on May 7, that Millet was, by a clever deception, copying The paintings of his grandfather, a master of the Barbizan School, and seiiing them as genuine works. He was arrested and charged with putting false signatures on art works, and with making a false declaration of the origin of pictures. Millet was also charged with issuing valueless cheques.
