A tempestuous night with torrential rain was experienced in the coastal districts and out-back.
People in many centres, especially in the north, fearing floods in consequence, removed their household belongings to higher land. . The cyclone raged throughout the night, the wiud reaching a velocity of 60 miles an hour.
All along the coasts vessels are sheltering from the sea's fury. Over 150 families in the Cessnoek district have abandoned their homes owing to the flood waters.

In Newcastle many homes were inundated and families at Cockle Creek have taken shelter in the railway station. In the main street of Cessnoek the water is 10 feet high in the shops. Further heavy rain and strong winds are predicted. Along the eastern areas coastal shipping has been suspended. A Kempsey express train carrying a large number of passengers had just emerged from a tunnel near the Hawkesbury River when the locomotive struck a mass of fallen rocks and earth and left the metals. The following coach was damaged, but the occupants were not hurt. The services were partially dislocated for three hours.
