Dreadful Explosion

CAR FILLED WITH GELIGNITE Woman Blown To Pieces MYSTERIOUS TRAGEDY NEAR SUVA, FIJI WHILE a motor-car filled with explosives was standing on the roadside near Suva, Fiji., a terrific explosion occurred and IVlrs. Sabben, the wife of a Government engineer there, was blown to pieces. Sabben, who had just left the car, was flung on the ground, but was not injured. The cause of the explosion is a mystery.

United I*.A.—By Telegraph —Copyright Reed. 12.5 p.m. SUVA, Today. A shocking tragedy occurred last evening at the Nasinu stone-crusher. Mr. Sabben, a Governemnt mechanical engineer, with his wife, had arrived with explosives and stores in a car. Sabben left the car and a minute or two later an awful explosion was heard. The stone-crusher managar, Mr. Elliott, was approaching the car, and

both he ancl Sabben were flung to the ground, escaping serious injury. The car contained 501 b. of gelignite, 200 detonators, and a quantity of benzine. The woman’s two feet were cut off at the ankle, and were found 60 yards away. The deceased was a daughter of Mr. White, a Woolwich leather manager. The cause of the explosion is a mystery.
