“DISRAELI”
The Warner Brothers’ picture “Disraeli,” which is continuing its successful season at St. James Theatre, is marked by its purity of English speech, its authenticity of historical detail and its excellence of character portrayal. The English actor George Arliss If cast in the leading role as Disraeli when he was Prime Minister in 1873. His attempts to raise sufficient morr for the purchase of the controlling shares in the Suez Canal and the activities of Russian agents to thwart him provide an interesting plot. Prominent parts are assigned tr* Joan Bennett, Florence Arli3s, Doris Lloyd and Anthony Bushell. VICTORIA, DEVONPORT “Charming Sinners” is the talkfc which heads the programme at th« Victoria Theatre. Devonport. this evening. This is a most delightful and entnrtaining tale of scandal in London society, based on the famous play by Somerset Maugham, and handled inhif well-known light manner. The leading roles are played by Clive Brooi. Ruth Chatterton and William Powell. Excellent talkie supports are also being shown. “Butch” is Lon Chaney’s newest He is a large grey cat, who wandered into the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s star dressing room and made friends. Ever; day Chaney has scraps from the studi# commissary placed in his room for Ids new pet, and “Butch” watches over tl* place like a watchdog. He even chased William Haines’s bulldog away froa the place the other day. Fannie Brice sings these songs i* “Be Yourself,” and they are the expositions of her husband, Willi* 3l Rose:—“'When a Woman Love# » Man,” “Cooking Breakfast For Man I Love.” “I’m Sascha, the Pa?siot of the Pasha,” and “There’s Someth-rf the Matter with Otto Kahn.”
